The Head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has called for the private sector’s partnership in aviation development projects. Underlining his organization’s resolve to attract more investors to develop the country’s aviation industries.
Of the 47 existing Airports 27 will be undergoing rehabilitation and refurbishment with new terminals also coming up making Iran a dynamic hot spot for Airport development.
According to the Iranian Civil Aviation organization outlook, Iran may need to acquire 400-500 aircraft over the coming decade to meet its rapidly growing air traffic demand and to replace the older aircraft fleet in its airline industry.
Imam Khomeini International Airport, about 40 km southwest of the Iranian capital, currently has capacity for 6 million air travelers a year. The airport’s new terminal due to be built in five years will increase the capacity to 20 million passengers a year. New airports are planned in Araz Qom and Ikia Province to the tune of USD 6 billion.
Iran Airports Company (IAC), recently announced that the airport development projects worth US$2bn are planned in five airports in the cities of Tehran, Shiraz, Mashhad, Isfahan and Ahwaz.
